


The Himalayan Chetan Education and Social Welfare Society was co-founded by 7 like-minded individuals in Hamirpur district of Himachal Pradesh, with a shared vision of ‘Together we can change’.
The Himalayan Chetna Education and Social Welfare Society is a registered society under the Society Registration Act, 1860 in the year 2004. In the beginning the name of the society was ‘Rajneesh Education Society’.
In the light of the objectives, the HCN has initiated many projects/programmes in district Hamirpur. The detail of these projects/programmes is given as below:

The main concern of HCN is providing quality education to the underprivileged and weaker section of the society. In this regard, the HCN is working since 2004.

Programs for skill development are essential for improving people's abilities and employ ability. HCN has implemented many such programmes for the upliftment of poor.

JLGs are credit-oriented groups formed primarily to avail loans from banks or formal credit institutions. HCN has created 45 Joint Liability Groups under the umbrella of NABARD.

The awareness campaigns of the Himalayan Chetna ardently involve communities, provoking dialogues that lead to significant changes in perception and behavior.
It is the aim of the society to work in the furtherance of the women charter of the United Nations and the various Acts promulgated by the Government of India and Government of Himachal Pradesh for women empowerment. HCN is making efforts to improve the social, economic, and political status of women. To achieve this the HCN is taking gender issues and educate the society, enabling women to participate in social, economic and cultural development programmes, guide them in taking employment opportunities, increase their capacity, encourage women clubs and mahila mandals, redressing women grievances and setting up maternity home, education centres, crutch centres both on charitable or self-financing basis.
The society work in the furtherance of UN Charter of child rights and various Acts promulgated by the government of India and state government. In this regard the objectives of HCN includes, to educate parents and educating educational institution about the rights of children, protecting right to life of child, assist the government in addressing the problems of female foeticide, establishing children’s homes, taking issues of violence against children to appropriate legal forums.
HCN is taking care of the old age population in all possible ways and to ensure that they are equal partners of the civil society. In this regard the objectives are: to arrange free or paid medical facilities, setting up Ashrams, old age homes, providing services at their door steps, legal help, educating people to take care of elders.
The society will take up health and family welfare programmes as are approved by WHO and adopted by the Government of India and Government of Himachal Pradesh. Under this the HCN undertake different works, like, establishing dispensaries, clinics and pharmacies, carrying out immunization programme, blood donation camps, free medical aid, help in the national health programme for TB, Leprosy, AIDS and Cancer, organizing eye-camps, propagating family planning programmes, spreading awareness on sexually transmitted diseases, cleanliness, maternity help and check-up of women.
The HCN work for the clean and pollution free environment and protection of the environment thereof. The objectives are: educating the civil society to address the problems of global warming, melting glaciers, greenhouse gas effects, energy conservation, encouraging forest and wildlife conservation, maintaining bio-diversity, initiating watershed development programme, developing plantation and forestry, developing nurseries of various plants, initiating plantation on wasteland, water management, regeneration of degraded land, developing pasture land for fuel and fodders, motivating programmes on wasteland management, training and awareness programme of watershed and benefit of conservation of forest.

HCN is a non-government organization based at Hamirpur district of Himachal Pradesh. Beside education, HCN strives to replicate the natural resource management work, livelihood and agriculture development initiative in the state of Himachal Pradesh, particularly, in Hamirpur district.
