Programs for skill development are essential for improving people’s abilities and employability. These programs concentrate on teaching soft skills like cooperation and communication as well as hard skills like digital literacy and vocational training. People who participate in skill development programs gain the necessary competencies to succeed in the competitive labour market of today. During the year 2023-24, the Himalayan Chetna Education and Social
Welfare Society has implemented two skill development Programme at different places in Hamirpur district. These programmes are:
MEDP is an important programme of NABARD. The primary goal of the MEDP is to empower economically disadvantaged individuals, especially, women, by fostering micro-enterprises and creating off-farm employment opportunities. It targets matured Self-Help Groups (SHGs) that already have access to finance from banks.
During the year 2023-24, the Himalayan Chetna has implemented 2 such programmes and organized training to the members of self-help groups.
This training was provided to the women of gram panchayat Banal at Banal, Hamirpur district. To organize the training in food processing (papad Badiyan) the women Self-help groups of Gram 17 Panchayat banal were contacted and a meeting was organized with them. In the meeting the Himalayan Chetna motivated the women to participate in this training programme. Himalayan Chetna’s promoters and community organizers identified women from these groups and organized training programmes to them. The tenure of the training was 15 days.A total of 45 women were selected for the training, out of which 30 women were sponsored by NABARD and 15 women were sponsored by Himalayan Chetna.
Under the MEDP of NABARD, this training was conducted at Baleta Village, Gram Panchayat Neri, district Hamirpur. This training is essential to the advancement of sustainable medical plant practices and understanding. The instruction covered topics such as the production, gathering, and distribution of medicinal plants to the participants. The trainers demonstrated excellent methods for medicinal plant conservation and use during this training.
A group of 30 women were selected after organizing meeting with the 10 women self-help groups of the area. These women were given 15 days training.
The trainees’ refresher training acts as a crucial accelerator for long-term growth and effect. It is an essential tool for enhancing competency with developing technologies, updating learners on new trends, and reinforcing current competencies. Participants obtain current insights, tools, and approaches through customized seminars. These courses develop advanced abilities in addition to reiterating core knowledge, giving participants the ability to successfully handle challenging situations. Through the cultivation of an environment that values lifelong learning, the Himalayan Chetna guarantees that its
MEDP/LEDP learners stay adaptable, strong, and prepared to tackle new challenges in their communities. Moreover, refresher training 21 fosters collaboration, and a shared commitment to excellence, driving collective efforts towards creating positive and lasting change in society.
By exposing trainees to real-world situations pertinent to their area, the exposure visit provides them with essential personal experience. It improves their comprehension, encourages networking, and sparks creative problem-solving. Through direct observation of optimal methodologies and obstacles, trainees acquire vital perspectives that are essential for their career advancement and meaningful involvement in their local communities.
During the year 2023-24, the Himalayan Chetna made provision for the exposure visit of the trainees of Food Processing (Papad Badiyan) and Medicinal Plants. The trainees of food Processing were taken to a factory of Papad Badiyan, namely, M/s Chandel Brand Ganesh Products, located at Ghumarwin district Bilaspur. The trainee of papad badiyan got necessary practical experience of making papad badiyan. The owner of factory explains every technicality before the
trainees and provides practical knowledge. The trainees of medicinal plants were taken to Herbal Garden Neri, Ayush Vibhag, Hamirpur, to provide them practical knowledge related to cultivation, production, gathering, and distribution. The incharge of herbal garden Neri provide education and knowledge about
different kinds of medicinal plants. The incharge also provide knowledge about the techniques and method used in cultivation of medicinal plants.
JLGs are credit-oriented groups formed primarily to avail loans from banks or formal credit institutions. Himalayan Chetna Education & Social Welfare Society has created 45 Joint Liability Groups under the umbrella of NABARD’s program. These JLG were created to provide financial assistance to the women through bank loan so that they can engage themselves in economic activities and generate some income to their family. During the year 2023-24, 15 Joint Liability Groups were created. All the created JLG’s have been linked to bank and provided loan. These JLG’s are doing those activities for which the loan has provided.
The awareness campaigns of the Himalayan Chetna ardently involve communities, provoking dialogues that lead to significant changes in perception and behaviour. Through well-planned outreach programs and engaging teaching materials, Himalayan Chetna enable people to understand important social and environmental issues. Himalayan Chetna foster an empathetic culture by means of workshops, seminars, and multi-media initiatives, thereby enacting significant change at the local level.
